Mills' dismissal no surprise to former walk-on
UK last week dismissed walk-on guard Dusty Mills in part for laughing on the bench at inopportune
times.

That action came as no surprise to Josh Johnston, a walk-on for Gillispie during coaching stops at
Texas El Paso and Texas A&M.

"One thing about Coach Gillispie is, you have the same amount of responsibility as a walk-on as you
do if you're Ramel Bradley," Johnston said last week. "I can see (Gillispie) going bananas on any
player who laughed on the bench, walk-on or not."

The TV broadcast of UK's win at Georgia showed Mills laughing during a timeout when Bradley was
injured after a hard fall. He also appeared to be laughing at one point during the Wildcats'
41-point loss last week at Vanderbilt.

Bradley said this week that Mills apologized for his laughter during the Georgia game and said he
was willing to lobby for Mills' return to the team, though Mills, a 5-foot-7 freshman from
Noblesville, Ind., declined that offer.

"The thing Coach Gillispie is probably the best at is eliminating distractions," said Johnston, now
an assistant coach at the College of Eastern Utah. "I don't know Dusty, and I'm not saying he was a
distraction. I'm just saying that Coach Gillispie expects everybody to want to win as badly as he
does, and if a guy is laughing or cutting up on the bench, I can see him having a problem."
